Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation issued a report summarizing reduction in solid waste disposal since their organic waste diversion law went into effect in 2014. The amount of solid waste going to landfills decreased by 5% during the first year amounting to 12,000 tons of food and other material from the waste stream.
